About William Shayer

William Shayer (1787-1879) was a British painter known for his depictions of rural landscapes and genre scenes. He was born in Southampton, England, and showed an early talent for art. He began his career as a coach painter, but soon decided to pursue his passion for landscape painting.

Shayer initially studied under the renowned artist John White, who introduced him to the techniques of oil painting. He later moved to London, where he further honed his skills by studying at the Royal Academy Schools. During this time, he also worked as an assistant to the landscape painter Thomas Girtin.

In the early 19th century, Shayer gained recognition for his paintings of idyllic countryside scenes, often featuring farm animals, rural workers, and picturesque landscapes.
