About Rene Prou
Rene Prou (1889-1947) was a prominent French furniture and decorative arts designer of the Art Deco era. Born in Paris, France, Prou began his career as a draftsman and studied architecture at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts.
Prou's early work was heavily influenced by the Art Nouveau movement, characterized by its organic and flowing forms. However, he quickly transitioned to the emerging Art Deco style, which emphasized geometric shapes, clean lines, and luxurious materials.
In the 1920s, Prou established himself as a leading designer, creating furniture and decorative objects that epitomized the elegance and sophistication of the era. His designs were known for their innovative use of materials, such as exotic woods, lacquer, and metal accents.
