Pole screen

A small fire screen popular in the 18th Century. The pole screen has an adjustable panel mounted on a vertical pole that is supported with a tripod base. Often the panel portion includes an elaborate embroidery or fine piece of cloth as decoration. The small screen was placed between a single sitter and a fireplace to shield their face from the heat of the fire.

Embroidery

Embroidery is the craft of decorating fabric materials with a needle and thread or yard. The decorative needlework can be done by hand or machine with silk, cotton, wool, rayon, or metal thread.

Satinwood

Satinwood is a bright, rich golden-yellow wood, hard in texture. This wood is often imported from Brazil or grown in southern India and Ceylon. Satinwood is valued in cabinetry work.

Adam Style
