Jens Risom (May 8, 1916 – December 9, 2016) was a Danish-American furniture designer and entrepreneur. He is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of mid-century modern design in the United States.

A technique in which the outer hull of the rattan vine is removed and used as a weaving material. It is usually woven in a hardwood frame to create a mesh that can serve as a chair seat or back, and is extremely flexible and strong. Caning dates back as far as 2nd Century India.
