About Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an iconic American artist and a leading figure in the visual art movement known as Pop Art. Born Andrew Warhola on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the fourth child of immigrant parents from present-day Slovakia.
Warhol displayed an early interest in art and attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) where he studied commercial art. After graduating in 1949, he moved to New York City, where he began his career as a successful commercial illustrator for various magazines and advertising agencies.
