About Renzo Rutili

Renzo Rutili (1901-1966) was a renowned Italian furniture designer and decorator who played a significant role in shaping the mid-century modern movement. Born on May 14, 1901, in Milan, Italy, Rutili developed a passion for design and craftsmanship from an early age.

Rutili's career in the field of furniture design began in the 1920s when he joined the prestigious firm of Giuseppe Maggiolini, an esteemed Italian cabinetmaker. Under Maggiolini's guidance, Rutili honed his skills and gained a deep understanding of traditional woodworking techniques.

In the 1930s, Rutili's talent caught the attention of the renowned Italian architect Gio Ponti, who invited him to join his studio. This collaboration marked a turning point in Rutili's career and exposed him to the
