About Florence Knoll

Florence Knoll (born Florence Schust) is an American furniture designer and architect who played a significant role in shaping the field of interior design and decorative arts. She was born on May 24, 1917, in Saginaw, Michigan.

Knoll studied at the Kingswood School, a prestigious college preparatory school for girls in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Later, she pursued a Bachelor of Architecture degree at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, where she studied under renowned architects such as Eliel Saarinen and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

In 1941, Florence Schust married Hans Knoll, a German immigrant who had established the Hans G. Knoll Furniture Company in New York. Together, they formed Knoll Associates, a company that would become synonymous with modern design and
