Paul Makovski (b.1982) is an American self taught artist based in Chicago, Illinois.

Makovski’s work features the ‘Spirit Orbs’, made of enamel and acrylic along with fabrics, fur, leather, mirrors, transparent gel sheets, vinyl, and plexiglass. The Spirits Orbs creates the illusion of a glass that is hovering weightlessly in front of the canvas. The orbs can be contrasting, color pairing and or an exact color match.

“I want the viewer to second guess what they are seeing and be forced to interact with the art. Everyone always reaches out to touch something they know is not there. The orbs often look like floating glass spheres, or some sort of light, but what texture do people expect to feel when they touch the orb?” The emphasis is not on the art itself, but the actual interaction one has with it.

Makovski has developed his craft for the last twenty years, and even gone so far as to employ the assistance of aerospace and submarine technicians in order to create the orbs, further illustrating the complexity and originality of Makovski’s body of work.
