Finial

An ornamental, terminating piece that extends vertically from the apex of a design. In architecture, they are found at the tips of gables or spires, and in furniture, as top ornaments on cabinet corners, posts, or supports. Finial also refers to the decorative metal piece used to affix lampshades to table and floor lamps. They often take the shape of a ball, flame, flower, acorn, pineapple, or vase.

Pedestal

A tall, narrow base which supports a statue, lamp, vase or any decorative object. Usually treated with moldings at the top and a base block on the bottom. Without moldings it is called a plinth.

Oak

A dense hardwood valued in furniture making for its durability and strength. It varies in shade depending on variety and can range from a lighter wood (white oak) to a deep reddish brown (red oak). It became popular during the Tudor period in England and remains a popular wood variety.
